Empowering Our Councils

We ran a special evening event for our Town and Parish Councillors and Clerks in the Forest of Dean District to discover the benefits of  community-owned  energy, how to identify potential projects, and what the first steps are to start things moving.

As local government reorganisation re-shapes the role of town and parish councils, how can councils respond to the energy crisis and increasing costs, whilst supporting their communities into the future?   With opportunities around community asset transfer and increasing local responsibility, this is a key moment to explore what’s possible.

Empowering our Councils focused on sharing practical ideas for managing community assets cleanly and affordably in a time of change.

We also gave an overview of funding options, including the community-energy model, and new opportunities being made available through GB Energy and the Local Power Plan.

We had councillors from Lydney Town Council, West Dean Parish Council, and Kempley Parish Council, plus interested residents from Yorkley, Coleford and Lydney. The presentation was well recieved and has already been booked for a local parish council meeting in September.
