Get Grant Ready - Pilot
Good news - we are being approached by people who are interested in adding solar to their community/commercial buildings. Five have completed our initial roof data collection form, and three came together to explore options, learn more, and make a plan for the next stage:
- To form a self-supporting local group
- To test and refine a new process for supporting more solar projects in the District

The things we covered included:
An example Community Energy installation: The Sling Community Hub project.
- The community-owned business model and alternatives, including full and part grant-funding, and grant-funded feasibility work.
- Rooftop leases and legal costs - structural and electrical surveys.
- Planning – what is required, how to go about it, what might it cost.
- The role of an Installer / Feasibility Reports – (Dan Doran - Nimbus Solar)
- Liaison with the DNO (National Grid), G99 applications to confirm connection of the proposed PV system / EV Chargers – (Ed Plant - Nimbus Solar)
- The role of an Architect and the responsibilities of building owners. (David Crozier)
- Funding opportunities (capital grants / grants for feasibility work), The Local Power Plan.
- Useful resources and links / local case-studies.
We had lovely feedback from the session!
“Keep us connected so we can share and learn from each other”
“Just carry on with what you are doing”
"I really liked the mix of expertise and experience in the room and how constructive the discussion was across a range of sectors (Public, Private, Voluntary)"
What are the next steps.... we plan to re-convene in two months, assess where everyone is, and work out support for the next stage. Watch this space!
