Focus on: Lydney

One of the four prinicple towns in the Forest of Dean District, Lydney "the gateway to the Forest of Dean" is one of the many places where Forest Community Energy is active and pro-active. Situated between the River Severn and the forest, it has many lovely spaces to enjoy, and a range of small businesses to visit.

We meet regularly in different places around the district, or online, and often use Lydney Community Centre. It's a lovely place to meet and has solar on the roof too (grant funded), installed by local firm Nimbus Solar.

Our “Get Grant Ready” pilot project, is supporting more local community buildings on their way to installing solar panels, including Lydney Town Hall, and the Four Seasons Cafe in Bathurst Park.

Did you know that there is a Thermal Camera Loan scheme where you can borrow a camera for free from Lydney Library and check out where your home might be losing heat?

We want to support local businesses and often have our smaller face-to-face meetings in local cafes, over coffee (and sometimes cake!).  We have been to Taurus Crafts, the Four Seasons Cafe, and Hips Social locally. If any local pubs or cafes would like some of our lovely coasters, just get in touch by email.

We were invited to attend the annual Lydney Town Hall Meeting and an excellent event at Lydney Rugby Club for local sports clubs looking to become more sustainable. Both meetings showed how engaged people in Lydney are with their local community.

We have over sixty members, and 10% are from Lydney!  It’s just £1 to join, and easy to do online. We would love to welcome you!
