Get Grant Ready - Updates!

A huge 'thank you' to everyone who came to the second meeting of our Get Grant Ready Pilot project!  It was great to have so many people willing to share their knowledge and experiece, and to make positive steps towards helping 'Get Grant Ready'. We took great feedback and ideas from our first meeting and included them in this one.

We are delighted to say we commissioned our first "Energy Report and Structural Assessment" at the meeting!  That important first step to getting ready for a grant. Dan from Nimbus Solar and Nick from Forest Voluntary Action Forum, Cinderford will liaise to make this happen. We hope to commission up to four more in the next few weeks, watch this space!

Particular thanks to:

  • Melvyn and Vance for sharing the Mitcheldean Community Centre journey toward sustainability
  • Tony and Nigel for the story so far at Soudley Village Hall
  • Michael for describing the challenges and ambition at Sedbury & Beachley Village Hall
  • The Sling Community Hub for their stats - since the installation of their system they have saved over 50% of their electricity costs from July 2025 - Feb 2026 (compared to the previous year), that's over £3,000!
  • Dan and Stacey from Nimbus Solar for explaining the "Energy Report and Structural Assessment" process
  • Nick for sharing the issues that roof-condition problems raise
  • Simon for shedding light, and giving encouragement, on getting advice on the Planning process via the District Council
  • Steve for his presentation on GRCC and the breadth of support they offer, including advice on grants
  • Emma-Jayne for arranging the (very lovely) venue
  • Solly for tech support and demonstrating the Thermal Imaging camera (borrow one for free from libraries in the district)
  • David for providing an architects' expertise (and for the great group photo)
We commission the first "Energy Report and Structural Assessment" for FVAF, Cinderford
Great conversations!

We had time for one-to-one conversations after the break for refreshments.
