Up The Energy

Up The Energy

Community Energy England took the Up The Energy campaign to Westminster this week, delivering an open letter to the Government calling for urgent action to unlock the full potential of community energy.

The letter has been signed by 250 organisations nationally (including us) working across climate action, poverty reduction, community development, and local enterprise - showing just how much support there is for community-led clean energy.

The aims of the campaign:

The Up The Energy campaign is a national effort to unlock the potential of community energy. It’s about more than policy - it’s about conversation, engagement and action in the places where the energy transition really matters.

At its heart is a simple idea: If communities are going to power Britain’s clean future, we need to bring the discussion out of Westminster and into the towns and communities where the change is felt most.

Over the coming months we will focus on:
Policy influence - working with the Government to set out the practical steps needed to unlock clean energy and help community energy projects thrive
Public engagement - building awareness and support for community-led energy
And we hope to be able to launch our regional activation - hosting events and conversations in towns across the country
This is about building momentum from the ground up. Communities across the UK are already leading the way - and we want to amplify that leadership so it translates into real projects and lasting change.

It will be interesting to see how this develops in combination with the Local Power Plan.
